Age-Related Trend in Biological Rhythms Investigated Via
a Periodic-Linear Regression Analysis:
the Clinospectror Method
Pietro CUGINI
Abstract: This report deals with a biostatistical procedure for analyzing the trend of biological rhythms as a function of age. The method is based on a periodic-linear regression analysis (PLRA) in which the periodic time of biological rhythms interacs with the linear time of chronological age. The procedure, called "clinospectror method", analyzes the trend for the properties of biological rhythms, i.e., the mean level of oscillation, the extent of waveform profile, and the timing of oscillatory crest. The clinospectror method allows to detect specific models of aging processes in bioperiodic functions in virtue of the concordance or discordance in the age-related trend for rhythmometric parameters. The PLRA also allows to forecast past and future properties, as well as decay times, in bioperiodic phenomena. Finally, the method is applicable to the assessment of biological age, and to the compution of senility index.
