育児における精神的負担と対処行動
─ダウン症幼児のいる母親の調査─

　ダウン症幼児のいる母親を対象に,育児における精神的な負担状況とその対処行動を明らかにし,個別的なニーズに対応できる望ましい支援のあり方を検討することを目的としてアンケート調査を実施した。その結果,親としての一番の悩みは子どもの成長と育て方が全体の5割で,障害児をもつ親としては人間的成長や積極的受容として意味づけていた。育児における精神的負担が重度を示したものが4割で,行動への懸念,親業への自信や親役割の不満などの因子に高い負担感を示した。そして,育児上の困難時に,高い対処行動を示した因子は,家族内セルフヘルプ,問題の再定義や受け身の体勢であった。

Coping with the Stress of Raising Children
- A Survey of Mothers of Children with Down Syndrome -

　Using a questionnaire, we surveyed mothers of children with Down syndrome to determine their stress levels and find out how they cope with stress. The goal was to find ways of more effectively meeting mothers' needs. The results showed that50%of the mothers' biggest worry is how they will take care of their children and how the children will grow and develop. Another major worry is how their children will be accepted by society. And40%said they found child care to be severely stressful. They attributed this stress to factors such as fear of their own behavior, a lack of self-confidence in their parenting abilities, and dissatisfaction with parental roles. Factors that helped relieve these high levels of stress included assistance from another family member, redefinition of problems, and developing an attitude of determination to accept the difficulties.
