地域生活でダウン症児と
その母親が抱える問題と援助に関して

Ｙ県で生活するダウン症児（３歳〜８歳）の母親６名を対象としてグループインタビューを行い，地域での生活の実態とそのサポート状況について検討した。
その結果，
１）障害の告知は，出生後１ヶ月までの間に医師により行われていたが，母親の不安を軽減し，児の養育に必要とされる具体的情報を提供した医師は１例のみであった。
２）児の退院後，全員が保健婦の訪問を受けている。ダウン症児であることに対して援助が得られたのは３例であったが，いずれも継続的な支援とはなっていない。
３）集団保育を６事例すべてが受けていたが，児に与える影響は園の取り組みによっても左右される。
４）地域でのダウン症児の療育システムの確立，また児や親の生活向上のため医療・福祉・教育などの専門職による組織的な関わりが望まれる。

Mothers of children with Down syndrome:
their perceptions of medical care and social support in community life

The purpose of this study is to understand the sources and types of support that mothers of children with Down syndrome receive and to clarify the demands of caring for these children.Six mothers of children with Down syndrome were interviewed in a group;the ages of the children ranged from 3 to 8 years.The results were as follows:
1)All the mothers were informed of the condition of their children from medical doctors within one month after birth; however,except for one doctor,they did not give any useful information and support.
2)Soon after the children came home,public health nurses visited them in all cases.Three cases were given some information related to Down syndrome.Although the mothers expected continuous support from the nurses,they only visited once.
3)All the children have experienced of attending a group nursery,the effects of which are dependent on the circumstances.
4)A comprehensive support system for mothers who care for children with special needs is desirable in the community.
