古代ギリシア人の生命観
―原初時代からプラトンまで ―

生命に関心を持たぬ民族はないが、その関心の多様性、ことに自然科学とのつながりにおいて、古代ギリシア人の生命観は独特の意義を持っている。本稿は古代ギリシア人の生命観の特徴を、アニミズム、ホメロス、オルペウス教、初期自然哲学者たち、ヒッポクラテス集典、ソフィスト、ソクラテス、プラトンの順にとり上げ、その相互のつながりとそれぞれの意味をさぐり、あわせてそれが今日に与える示唆を考察しようとするものである。

Various Views of Life in the Ancient Greeks
- From the Earliest Times to Plato -

No race ignores the problem of life. The ancient Greeks, however, has a special relevance for us, in their many-sided interests, and especially, in ther relationship to the natural science. This article, taking up their animistic stage, Homer, early Greek phiosophers, the Hippocratic corpus, sophists, Socrates and Plato successively, tries to find out ther mutual relationship, their own discoveries and their suggestive significance for the present-day situation of life-theory.
