チョーサーが初めて使用したラテン語とフランス語
の現代英仏語における残存率
―『カンタベリ物語』総序文の場合―

　これは本紀要第１巻及び第２巻に発表した「『カンタベリ物語』総序文の中でチョーサーが初めて使用したラテン語とフランス語の研究(1)(2)」の延長線上の研究である。1386年に初めて借用された59語が現代英仏語の中でどれほど残存しているかを調べる。さらになぜ今も使われ、なぜ今は使われなくなったか、そのメカニズムも解明する。

This paper is an extension of the study presented in Vol.I (1984) and Vol. II (1985) of this Bulletin entitled "A study of Latin and French loan words which Chaucer first used in the General Prologue to The Canterbury Tales. "
Studied here are survival rates of the 59 Latin and French words which Chaucer first introduced into English, with special emphasis on the mechanism of their continued use or their fall into disuse.
