英法 Legal Jargon の中世仏語起源について（２）

　英法用語がどことなく英語らしく感じられないことについて、本字紀要第４巻、89-98頁(1987年)で、その語源をたどることによって究明した。そこで扱ったのは、 John Pritchard 著 athe Penguin Guide to the Law, second edition, 1985の附録 Legal Jargon: An A-Z Guide の中の単純語（ただし合成語も含む。）133語のうち、はじめの66語であった。今回は残りの67語を扱った。結論は前回と同じく、Anglo-Frenchが従来明かされた以上に多く関与しているということである。なお、角括弧でくくった訳語については、前回と同じく、有斐閣英米法辞典（初版22刷昭和62年）を参照したことをお断りしておく。

A Study of the Medieval French Origin of the Legal Jargon of English Law (2)

I elucidated in pages 89-98 of Volume 4 of this Bulletin, 1987, how the legal jargon of English Law generally looks un-English by investigating its origin. I used Legal Jargon: An A-Z Guide, an appendix to John Pritchard,s The Penguin Guide to the Law. second edition, 1985, and treated the first 66 words out of the 133 single words. In this second and last installment I treated the remaining 67 words. The conclusion is the same as before, that Anglo-French is much oftener involved in them than has so far been elucidated.
