『カンタベリ物語』総序文の中でチョーサーが始めて使用した
ラテン語とフランス語の研究（１）

　これはチョーサーが『カンタベリ物語』総序文ではじめて借用したラテン語とフランス語の研究である。借用語の全リストはすでに1979年に『山梨大学教育学部研究報告第30号』に発表してあり、今回は研究の第二段階となる。はじめての借用語数は59語で、O.E.D. と筆者の推定に基づく。借用の年代は1386年と確定しており、これとフランス語における初出年とを比較し、借用の早さ、借用の文化的背景を論じる。その際大陸のフランス語と英国のフランス語とを区別し、なじみのフランス語からか海峡の彼方のフランス語からかによって借用の意味のちがいを明らかにする。

A Study of Latin and French loan words
which Chaucer first used in the general prologue to The Canterbuy Tales

This is a study of the Latin and French loan words which Chaucer first used in the General Prologue to The Canterbury' Tales. The whole list of the Latin and French loan words in the Prologue was published already in Memoirs of the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Education of Yamanashi University. NO. 30, in l979, so this is the second step of the loan word study. The number of the loan words concerned is 59, based on The Oxford English Dictionary and the inference of the present writer. The date of the first borrowing is ascertained to be 1386. So the present study compares the date with that of the first recorded appearance in the French language, and elucidates the rapidity, and the cultural background, of borrowing. Special emphasis was placed on distinguishing the two sorts of the French language. Continental French and Anglo-French (or Anglo-Norman), thus making clear the nuance of borrowing.
