個別学力検査で英語を課すと何が変るか（その１ ）

　８５年から２次試験（現個別学力検査）で英語を課したが，翌８６年に理科を１科目選択としたため，「理科１科目選択では入学後の基礎教育を満足に行うことが困難である。」という声に押された形で，９０年には理科を２科目選択とし，英語を廃止した。ところが，個別学力検査で英語を課す必要性を説く声が，最近医学科で再び大きくなった。本論文では，まず英語を課した５年間に注目しながら，本学で行った２０回の入試を振り返り，試験教科・科目等と入学してくる学生の属性等の関係について考察する。次に入試で課している各教科による合否入替り率について論ずる。最後に，入試の英語得点と入学後の英語の成績の関係等を追究する中で，入学後の英語教育の重要性を改めて確認する。

　What Will Change If the English Test Is Given
at the University−Based Entrance Examination ? (I)

　At Yamanashi Medical University (YMU) the English test was first included in the second entrance examination (now, the university- based entrance examination) in 1985.　In the following year another change was made about natural sciences and applicants were required to choose one subject out of physics,chemistry, and biology.　In 1990, influenced by more and more voices that choosing only one subject out of the three scientific ones had made fundamental education on the college level quite unsatisfactory, the choice of two scientific subjects became compulsory and English was excluded in their stead.Recently, however, the necessity of setting the English test at the university- based entrance examination is more and more talked about among medical professors.
　This article,looking back at the YMU entrance examination for the past twenty years, with special stress on the five years when the English test was imposed, aims at considering the relation between the subjects given and the characteristics of successful applicants.Then, the pass- fail shifting rate is discussed with each tested subject.　Finally, in the process of examining the correlation of the scores gained at the entrance examination with the results of English tests
after entering the university, the importance of English education in the university is reconfirmed.
